The budget of the Ja-Ela Pradeshiya Sabha, which is ruled by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has been defeated by a majority of six votes today.
During the voting held today, 24 votes have been cast against the budget and only 19 votes have been cast in favour.
In the Ja-Ela Pradeshiya Sabha which consists of 47 members, 23 members represent SLPP.
Nine members represent the United National Party, five members represent the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, four members represent the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, while Jathika Janatha Pakshaya and an Independent party has one member each.
However, four members of the SLPP along with members of the Opposition have voted against the budget in today's (12) vote.
