President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed Seven Additional Solicitor Generals of the Attorney General's Department as President's Counsels.
The Presidential Media Unit stated that in accordance with Article 33 (e) of the Constitution, the President is empowered to appoint lawyers who have excelled in the legal profession and who are honest and excelling in professional matters as President's Counsel.
Accordingly, Additional Solicitor Generals Milinda Goonetileke, Haripriya Jayasundara, Vikum Abrew, Shanaka Wijesinghe, Ravindra Pathiranage, Nerin Pulle and Chethiya Gunasekera have been appointed as President's Counsels.
The new President's Counsels are due to be sworn in in the near future and the relevant appointments have been handed over to the Director-General of Presidential Law, Attorney-at-Law Harigupta Rohanadheera, Registrar of the Supreme Court today (14), the Presidential Media Unit announced.
