The tenure of 340 local government bodies is scheduled to end day after tomorrow.
However, although the local government polls are scheduled to be held on April 25, Government Printer Gangani Liyanage says that money has not yet been received for the printing of ballot papers.
With the tenure of 340 local government institutions ending day after tomorrow, a discussion was held between Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and the provincial governors regarding the future activities of the institutions.
It is said that there has been a discussion regarding bringing the local government bodies under the purview of the commissioners.
Meanwhile, The Supreme Court granted leave to hear the Fundamental Rights petition filed by the Centre for Policy Alternatives pertaining to the 2023 Local Government election.
Accordingly, the petition will be heard as per an order issued by the three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising of Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Gamini Amarasekera and Janak de Silva.
