A person travelling on the "Podi Menike" train, which was operating from Colombo to Badulla, has died after falling from the moving train and being run over by it.
The incident occurred near the Bandarawela Railway Station at approximately 3:30 PM today (28), our correspondent reports.
The victim has been identified as a resident of the Pilimatalawa area.
According to initial investigations, the individual had boarded the train at the Kandy railway station to travel to the Bandarawela town.
He reportedly fell while attempting to get off the train before it came to a complete stop at the station.
The body of the deceased has been placed in the mortuary of the Bandarawela Base Hospital, and the Bandarawela Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
