Rear Admiral (Rtd) Sarath Mohotti, former Director of Navy Intelligence, has been remanded until September 24.
He was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over a series of alleged abductions and disappearances.
The CID produced him before the Polgahawela Magistrate's Court today.
The CID's investigation relates to the alleged abduction and disappearance of 11 youths in and around Colombo in 2008, as well as the alleged disappearance of a young man who was taken to Trincomalee after being allegedly detained illegally at the Alawwa Police Station in 2010.
