Govt. committed to provide uninterrupted power supply

Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, said it was the government's responsibility to ensure a continuous electricity supply.

Responding to questions from journalists he said that the decision to cancel employee leave after electricity was made as an essential service.

He warned the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees, saying, "The government is not prepared to allow a power failure. This has been made an essential service. Therefore, we ask the employees to report for work. If you can't, you can take compensation and leave. This must be done, and we cannot go forward without the reform."

When asked how the restructuring of the CEB would reduce electricity bills, the minister explained that separating the entity into different companies would help to identify where profits and losses were being made.

Minister said that he was confident that by making each sector more efficient, they could provide a solution to high electricity bills and give relief to consumers.
