Fisheries, Aquatic Resources and Marine Resources Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar have instructed officials of the Anti-Narcotics Division to launch an awareness program, immediately, to educate the fishing community on how to avoid being ensnared by drug traffickers.
The Minister gave these instructions during a special meeting held today (23) attended by 25 district coordinators of the Fisheries Ministry.
He stated that the Sri Lanka Navy would also be briefed on the program. During the meeting, the Anti-Narcotics Division provided a detailed explanation on how drug traffickers exploit fishermen for their illicit activities.
Fisheries Deputy Minister Rathna Gamage and Ministry Secretary P.K. Kamal Jinadasa were also present at the occasion.
