A ceremony to celebrate World Tourism Day was held today, September 27, at the Nanu Oya Railway Station.
The event was jointly organised by the Nanu Oya Railway Station Tourist Drivers' Association and the Tourist Three-wheeler Owners' Association, with the support of the Station Master and the staff of the Nanu Oya Railway Station.
Foreign tourists arriving at the Nanu Oya Railway Station, as well as those travelling on passenger trains, received a warm welcome, which included being garlanded with flowers.
School children performed several cultural items showcasing local traditions for the foreign visitors, who expressed their delight at the reception on World Tourism Day.
Some tourists who arrived by train even joined in the dancing at the station.
The event was attended by a large number of local residents, including the Nanu Oya Police Station Officer-in-Charge, tourist hotel owners, and other individuals engaged in the tourism industry.
