Gampaha District Member of Parliament (MP) and former Speaker, Asoka Ranwala, has been granted bail by the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court.
The MP was arrested this afternoon (12) while receiving treatment at the National Hospital, following a traffic collision that occurred in the Sapugaskanda area.
The incident took place yesterday (11) evening when a jeep driven by the Parliamentarian, who is also the National People’s Power (NPP) Biyagama electorate chief organiser, collided with a car driven by a woman and a motorcycle.
The MP himself, along with two women and an infant travelling in the other car, were injured and hospitalised.
Police Media Spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F. U. Wootler, stated that the MP was arrested on charges of dangerous driving and failing to prevent an accident.
