Police OIC transferred following alleged assault

Investigations are ongoing into a video circulating on social media showing an individual attacking another.

The Police Media Division announced that the assailant was identified as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Crimes Division at the Kuliyapitiya Police Station.

The inquiry proceeds under the direct supervision of the Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) of the North Western Province and is conducted by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

Following the identification, the officer involved was transferred from Kuliyapitiya to the Mawatagama Police Station with immediate effect.

Authorities expect to take disciplinary action against the suspect in the near future.
