Spill gates opened at major reservoirs

Irrigation authorities have opened several spill gates at major reservoirs across Sri Lanka, including Rajanganaya and Moragahakanda, following persistent heavy rainfall.

At the Rajanganaya Reservoir, six spill gates are currently open, discharging water into the Kala Oya at a rate of 7,130 cubic feet per second.

Similarly, authorities opened spill gate number three at the Moragahakanda Reservoir last night as water levels reached a critical point.

This is releasing approximately 1,500 cubic feet of water per second into the Amban Ganga.

The Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka confirmed that spill gates also remain open at the Victoria, Randenigala, and Rantambe reservoirs to manage the rising water volumes and ensure dam safety.
