The Samagi Jana Balawegaya-led joint opposition recorded a decisive win in the election held to appoint general assembly representatives for the Mahawa Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society.
In the election conducted on January 31, the joint opposition group secured 82 seats in the general assembly. The National People’s Power managed to obtain only 18 seats.
The Mahawa Multi-Purpose Cooperative Union consists of 30 regional branches, and the polling took place across 30 centres associated with these branches to determine the new leadership.
