The government intends to review the Protection of Residents Bill currently presented to Parliament, according to a notification provided by the Attorney General to the Supreme Court.
Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena made this announcement today (9) during the hearing of petitions challenging the proposed legislation.
The Justice Minister granted a one-month window, effective from February 3, to gather public comments and suggestions regarding the bill.
Following this commitment to reconsider the draft, the Supreme Court decided to conclude the proceedings related to the filed petitions.
