The body of a woman was discovered yesterday (26) under suspicious circumstances in a scrub forest in the Dematalandawatta area of Gonawa, within the Weerambugedera police division.
Weerambugedera Police initiated an investigation following a tip-off.
The deceased has been identified as a 65-year-old resident of the Gonawa area in Weerambugedera.
The cause of death remains unknown.
During the inspection of the body, a small rope was observed around the woman's neck.
Police also recovered a travel bag and a wallet near the body, suspected to belong to her.
Weerambugedera Police are conducting further investigations, and on-site examinations continue.
