The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has called on members of Iran’s security forces to surrender, urging them to lay down their arms and support efforts to change the country’s leadership.
In a statement, Trump addressed members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Iranian military and police, warning them of the consequences of continuing to fight.
“I’m once again calling on all members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the military and the police to lay down their arms. They’re only going to be killed. Now is the time to stand up and help take back your country,” he said.
Trump added that those who cooperate would be protected.
“You’ll be perfectly safe with total immunity or you’ll face absolutely guaranteed death, and I don’t want to see that,” he said.
He also urged Iranian diplomats around the world to seek asylum, saying such steps would help the United States shape what he described as “a new and better Iran.”
