Student dies during sports meet practice

A student passed away after collapsing during practice sessions for an inter-house sports meet at a school in Buttala.

Police state the deceased is a 15-year-old student studying in Grade 11 at the school.

The youth collapsed suddenly while running toward Buttala with a group of other children near the Katugahakolaniya Tank on the Buttala-Badalkumbura road.

Following the incident, he was admitted to the Buttala Regional Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Monaragala District General Hospital for further treatment, where he died.
