The body of a man suspected to have died from electrocution was discovered today (16) in a paddy field in the Kadana area of Horana, according to Horana Headquarters Police.
The deceased is identified as 68-year-old Weerakoon Walgammana Gunadasa, a father of one residing in Amuna Ellapilla, Kadana. He reportedly worked as a security guard at an estate in the Ilimba area.
Preliminary investigations reveal that before leaving for his work shift yesterday evening, the individual went to the paddy field near his home to retrieve his cow.
Around 8:00 PM, a person going to a nearby well to bathe noticed a flashlight glowing in the field. Upon inspection, the witness found the man lying on the ground and immediately alerted the family and the police.
Police took steps to summon Panadura Division Criminal Investigation officers to conduct further inquiries into the suspicious death. The magisterial inquiry was scheduled to take place today (16).
Horana Headquarters Police are leading further investigations into the incident.
