Public transport services will be limited on Wednesdays declared as government holidays, Essential Services Commissioner General Prabath Chandrakeerthi announced. This decision aligns with the closure of government offices and schools on those days.
Private sector institutions are urged to minimise commuting, according to Chandrakeerthi. Discussions with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon encouraged the implementation of work-from-home arrangements where possible to reduce transport demand.
The public should utilise transport services only for essential travel, such as hospital visits, as services will be restricted. These measures aim to ensure limited resources are used strictly for critical needs during periods of reduced movement.
