A 'National Steering Committee for Education Reforms,' comprised of industry experts, will be established to advance and regulate Sri Lanka's educational restructuring formally.
The Cabinet approved this body following a proposal by the Prime Minister in her capacity as the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education.
New educational reforms for Grade 1 already commenced this year, 2026, in line with current government policies.
The next phase involves introducing these reforms to Grade 6 starting in 2027, and this newly formed committee will bear the primary responsibility of overseeing the entire process.
The committee will include relevant ministers, education specialists, senior officials, and professionals.
Notably, representatives from trade unions will also join the panel to ensure a comprehensive approach to the transition.
