Cabinet approved a proposal to continue the distribution of sanitary napkins to schoolgirls this year to ensure uninterrupted education.
The programme aims to cover approximately 1.05 million students, including those above Grade 6 in all government schools and those in government-aided special schools.
The Prime Minister, in her capacity as the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, presented the proposal. Under this initiative, each student receives two vouchers worth Rs. 720 each, totaling Rs. 1,440 for the year.
Recipients can use these vouchers based on their preference to purchase either 12 packs containing 8 napkins (priced at Rs. 120 each) or 8 packs containing 10 napkins (priced at Rs. 180 each) throughout 2026.
