Police Headquarters announced that 104 drunk drivers were taken into custody during island-wide search operations conducted yesterday (14) on Sinhala New Year's Day.
A police statement noted that 27 individuals were also arrested for reckless driving, while 1,451 people were apprehended for various other traffic violations.
Throughout the day, authorities inspected 22,195 individuals, resulting in the arrest of 296 suspects.
These operations also led to the capture of seven individuals directly linked to crimes, along with 43 suspects with dated warrants and 26 others with open warrants, according to the Police Media Division.
