The body of a Sri Lanka Air Force Sergeant who went missing after his motorcycle plunged into a canal in the Kalugolla area of Inginiyagala was recovered yesterday (16).
According to the Inginiyagala Police, the body showed significant damage as it had been partially scavenged by crocodiles.
The incident occurred on the Pallama-Pahalalanda road when the motorcycle, travelling from Pallama toward Inginiyagala, veered out of control and fell into the canal.
Following reports that the rider had disappeared in the water, a special search operation was launched involving the Police Life Saving Unit and residents.
The deceased is identified as 40-year-old Asanka Sanjeewa, a resident of Gal Oya Pallama, Inginiyagala, who was attached to the Sri Lanka Air Force base in Uhana.
His body is currently placed at the Ampara General Hospital mortuary, with the autopsy scheduled to be performed today (17).
