A final-year student from the University of Moratuwa passed away this afternoon (19) after being swept away by a wave while bathing in the Bentota sea.
Police report that the deceased, identified as 25-year-old Kadir Kamanadan Mithusan, resided in the Chunnakam area of Jaffna and studied at the university's Faculty of Engineering. He visited the beach for recreation with two female students from the same university when a strong wave pulled him into the water.
Although bystanders brought him back to shore and rushed him to the Bentota Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Acting Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, B.K.P.R. Perera, conducted the preliminary inquiry at the Bentota Hospital and ordered the body moved to the Balapitiya Base Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police recorded statements from the two young women who accompanied him.
