Former State Minister Premalal Jayasekera granted bail

Former Member of Parliament Premalal Jayasekara was released on bail today (22) following an order by the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate's Court.

The court set conditions for his release, including a personal bail of Rs. 1 million and a cash bail of Rs. 25,000.

Nuwara Eliya Police arrested Premalal Jayasekara based on a complaint lodged by an aggrieved party regarding an incident where he allegedly threatened an individual with a pistol.

This occurred during an altercation between two groups while Jayasekara visited Nuwara Eliya with his family yesterday.

A police official stated that while the original license for the firearm was not in his possession at the time, investigations confirmed that the Ministry of Defence provided legal authorisation for the weapon.
