Government rejects opposition allegations over finance ministry hacking claims

The current administration should not be measured by the standards of past regimes, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe stated while dismissing opposition allegations regarding a reported financial fraud involving unauthorised access to the Ministry of Finance website.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday (23), the Deputy Minister emphasised that former rulers are well aware of the methods and orders utilised during the Central Bank scam under former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He further noted that individuals, including MP Namal Rajapaksa, base their accusations on their own experiences with corruption.

Addressing reports of a $2.5 million fraud via unauthorised access to a Ministry of Finance account, the Minister remarked that if such an event occurred, former leaders would have the capacity to provide specific details.

He concluded by asserting that no fraud took place and challenged those claiming knowledge of funds entering accounts in Pelawatte to come forward with that information.
