Parliamentary Member Ramanathan Archchuna was ordered to be held in remand custody until April 29 by the Jaffna Mallakam Magistrate's Court today (27).
This follows an incident where he allegedly used a firearm to threaten and exert criminal force on a woman.
The suspect was arrested after reportedly pointing a gun at a woman in the Periyavilan area of Jaffna.
According to local reports, the confrontation originated from a land dispute where the MP claims ownership of a property that is also being contested by another party.
A case regarding this specific land matter currently remains pending at the Mallakam Court.
On the 25th, while the MP attempted to clear the land, two women arrived and entered into an argument with him, claiming a portion of the property belonged to them.
During the dispute, the MP reportedly became angry and threatened the unarmed women while holding a pistol in his right hand.
