A container lorry assistant died this morning (1) after being crushed by the vehicle while it delivered goods to a supermarket in the centre of Nawalapitiya town.
The lorry, which transported food items from Kurunegala, was reversing from the main road toward the supermarket warehouse when the incident occurred, according to Nawalapitiya Police.
The young man serving as the assistant became trapped in the narrow space between the rear of the vehicle and the warehouse wall.
He died at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
The deceased assistant was 24 years old.
Nawalapitiya Police confirmed that the driver of the lorry is currently in custody.
