Bilateral discussions took place yesterday (04) between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, who arrived in the island for a three-day official visit. Seven Memoranda of Understanding related to sectors including tourism, education, health, and sports were signed during the meeting, according to the Presidential Media Division.
The official state ceremony to welcome the Maldivian President was held this morning at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The Maldivian President reached the Presidential Secretariat escorted by the Police Mounted Division and received a 21-gun salute with full state honours. This was followed by a tri-services guard of honour presented to the Maldivian leader before the commencement of bilateral talks.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, addressing a joint press conference afterwards, stated that a plot of land in Colombo was allocated for the Maldivian High Commission. In response, the Maldives also allocated a plot of land for the Sri Lankan High Commission.
