An Indian national attempting to smuggle drugs valued at over 400 million rupees into the country was apprehended by Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit officers at the Katunayake Airport. The suspect, who arrived on flight TG 307 last night, faced inspection while trying to exit through the Green Channel.
The 29-year-old suspect is reportedly an employee at a business establishment in India. During an inspection of two pieces of luggage, officers discovered the narcotics concealed inside. According to Customs reports, the haul consisted of 4,389 grams of marijuana and hashish.
The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at approximately 43,890,000 rupees. Following preliminary investigations, Sri Lanka Customs handed over the suspect and the narcotics to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further inquiries.
