The highest rainfall of 193 mm was recorded in the Kuliyapitiya area during the past 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM today. Furthermore, the Department of Meteorology stated that a rainfall of 175 mm was recorded from the Penrith Estate in Avissawella, 162 mm from the Veyangoda area in Gampaha, and 152 mm from the Kirindiwela area in Gampaha.
Meanwhile, a heavy rain warning notice effective until 8:30 AM tomorrow (16) was issued for the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northwestern provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts. Accordingly, very heavy rains of about 150 mm may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northwestern provinces, while heavy rains of over 100 mm may occur at some places in the Galle and Matara districts, the Department of Meteorology noted.
The low-pressure zone located northeast of Sri Lanka continues to persist, and the system is expected to move away from Sri Lanka within the next 36 hours.
