A 27-year-old youth residing in the Katuwana area died yesterday (17) following a severe road collision near the Maharuppa bridge on the Walasmulla to Middeniya main road, police said.
The collision occurred when a private bus travelling towards Middeniya crashed head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, towards Katuwana.
The motorcyclist and the pillion rider sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Katuwana hospital, where the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries.
The bus driver was arrested by the Katuwana Police in connection with the incident, and officers of the Katuwana Police Station are conducting further investigations.
