Landslide early warnings issued for six districts

The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) has issued landslide early warning notices for six districts due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions across the island.

The warnings will remain valid for a 24-hour period from 4:00 p.m. today (25) until 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (26).

Level 2 – “Be Alert” (Amber) landslide warnings have been issued for:

Kegalle District: Dehiowita, Deraniyagala, Ruwanwella, and Yatiyanthota
Ratnapura District: Kuruwita, Ratnapura, Ayagama, and Eheliyagoda

Level 1 – “Be Aware” (Yellow) landslide warnings have been issued for:

Colombo District: Seethawaka and Padukka
Gampaha District: Attanagalla
Kalutara District: Palindanuwara, Matugama, Bulathsinhala, Agalawatta, Ingiriya, and Horana
Kegalle District: Bulathkohupitiya
Nuwara Eliya District: Ambagamuwa
Ratnapura District: Kiriella, Pelmadulla, Nivithigala, Elapatha, and Kalawana

The NBRI has urged residents in affected areas to remain highly alert to early signs of landslides—such as ground cracks, tilting trees or electricity poles, and the sudden emergence of springs—and to be prepared to evacuate to safer locations if necessary.
