Corruption prevention programme for PHIs

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has launched a nationwide programme aimed at increasing awareness on anti-bribery and anti-corruption among Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) at the provincial level.

The focus of the programme is on high-risk and previously uncovered areas within the health sector.

The programme, jointly organised by the Corruption Prevention Division of CIABOC and the Ministry of Health, held its first workshop for the North Western Province on May 20 and 21 at the North Western Training Institute in Wariyapola.

Nearly 150 Public Health Inspectors representing the Province participated in the inaugural workshop, organisers said.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of CIABOC Director of Corruption Prevention V.C. Wijewardena.

Officials were extensively briefed and engaged in discussions on topics including the implementation of the new Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023, maintaining integrity in public service, the Corruption Perceptions Index, and the social and institutional impact of bribery and corruption.

Organisers said workshops for PHIs of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Western Provinces are planned to be held in the coming months.
