Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, extending greetings for the Hajj festival, said the occasion highlights the importance of rising above differences through brotherhood and unity.
She also stressed that all people should commit to building a society based on coexistence, mutual respect, and setting aside narrow political divisions.
Below is the Prime Minister’s message:
“I extend my warmest and heartfelt greetings to the Muslim community in Sri Lanka and across the world celebrating Eid al-Adha (Hajj), a festival deeply rooted in sacrifice, brotherhood, and compassion.
Hajj is a day of profound religious significance, commemorating the boundless devotion to God and noble spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim. It reflects the willingness to dedicate even one’s most valuable possessions for the greater good of humanity and in obedience to divine will.
On a day such as this, the most important lesson we must embrace is the value of rising above our differences and standing together in solidarity and brotherhood. The message of sharing and compassion embodied by Hajj serves as an inspiring example in our journey toward building a strong, peaceful, and prosperous Sri Lanka.
Therefore, setting aside narrow divisions, we must all resolve to build a society grounded in peace and coexistence, treating one another with kindness and respect.
I wish that this Hajj festival brings happiness, peace, prosperity, and blessings to all of you.”
