An 18-year-old Sri Lankan young woman has died on the spot after a dispute between two groups at a private bar in Chennai, India.
The dispute escalated, leading to an incident in which a group of young men allegedly rammed the girl's motorcycle with a car.
The victim has been identified as Yancy, a Sri Lankan refugee residing in the Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu.
Indian Police, who have filed charges in connection with the incident, have arrested three suspects: 21-year-old Balamurugan, 19-year-old Joshua, and 19-year-old Kishore Kumar.
According to police reports, the altercation began inside the bar while Yancy and her friends were dancing later got involved into an argument with another group of young men. Security personnel (bouncers) intervened and brought the situation under control.
However, the dispute continued outside the bar, where bouncers again intervened and instructed both groups to leave the premises.
Later, while Yancy and her friends were travelling on a motorcycle, they reportedly saw the rival group approaching in a car.
At that moment, Yancy’s friends allegedly threw stones at the car, provoking those inside. The car occupants then chased the motorcycle and deliberately rammed it from behind at high speed.
The impact threw Yancy off the motorcycle, killing her instantly.
Her 17-year-old friend, who was also on the motorcycle, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving intensive care in hospital. The victim’s family, deeply shocked by the incident, has called on authorities to ensure the maximum punishment for the suspects.
