Postmortem examinations of five of the 13 victims who died in the fire at the 'Senehase Kedella' elders' care home in Horana, have now been completed.
A spokesperson for the Horana Base Hospital said that postmortem examinations for two additional victims will be conducted today, as relatives of the deceased have come forward.
Two bodies, for which post-mortems were completed, have already been handed over to relatives for final rites. The remaining unclaimed bodies, for which post-mortems have been concluded, will be cremated or buried at government expense.
However, due to the absence of cold storage facilities at the Horana Base Hospital for around four years, authorities plan to transfer unclaimed bodies to the Kalutara Nagoda Hospital.
The fire at the elders' home, which occurred on June 3, claimed 13 lives, while six others remain under treatment at the Horana Base Hospital.
