A suspect who was driving a passenger transport bus with passengers on board without a valid driving licence was arrested yesterday (07) afternoon by officers of the Hatton Police Traffic Division.
Police stated that the suspect had been driving the bus daily from the Salankanda area of Hatton, Dickoya, and handing it over to the licensed driver en route. Acting on information received, police launched an operation and arrested both the suspect and the bus.
Police further noted that the route on which the bus operates is highly prone to accidents, as it consists of steep hills and sharp bends.
The Officer-in-Charge of the police station also stated that legal action will be taken before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court against the bus owner for allowing an unlicensed person to drive the bus and for permitting the operation of the vehicle under such conditions.
