10 arrested over alleged organised crime links

Ten suspects, including members of an organised crime gang, have been arrested by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crimes Investigation Bureau along with a live hand grenade, crystal methamphetamine ('Ice'), and sharp weapons.

A special crime operation was carried out in the early hours of today (09) by officers of the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crimes Investigation Bureau, covering the areas of Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala, and Angulana.

During the operation, 10 suspects — including eight associates of an organised crime and drug trafficking figure currently believed to be overseas — were arrested in possession of a live hand grenade, 35 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and five swords.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 56, are residents of Angulana, Moratuwa, and Ratmalana.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects are linked to several crimes, including serious assault cases involving sharp weapons in the Dehiwala area.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crimes Investigation Bureau.
