The Attorney General today (12) informed the Court of Appeal that, based on the facts currently available, no decision has been made at this stage to arrest or detain Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Varuna Jayasundara under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
The statement was made by Deputy Solicitor General Suharshi Herath, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, when a writ petition filed by SDIG Varuna Jayasundara was taken up today. The petition sought an order preventing his arrest or detention in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Following the submissions, the court ordered the petition to be taken up again next Wednesday.
