Sewwandi remanded for a further 30 days

The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (12) that Ishara Sewwandi, who was arrested and detained for questioning over allegedly aiding and abetting the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, will be held for a further 30 days for questioning.

The order was issued following submissions made by the Colombo Crimes Division regarding the case.

The CCD informed court that the previous 30-day detention order obtained for Ishara Sewwandi expired today, and a fresh 30-day detention order had therefore been secured.

The CCD further stated that, as the existing 90-day detention order against the suspect is due to expire on January 15, 2026, an additional 90-day detention order has also been obtained.

The Colombo Crimes Division also informed court that steps are being taken to issue Interpol Red Notices in English for suspects currently residing overseas in connection with the incident.

During the hearing, two suspects appeared before the open court, while the remaining suspects appeared via virtual technology.

The suspects connected to the case were remanded until June 26.
