Parliamentarian of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Namal Rajapaksa says that some members of the government claim President Gotabaya Rajapaksa came to power due to the Easter Sunday attacks, and if that is the case, then the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) also played a role through its national list.
Addressing a public meeting held at Seruwavila Rajawawa, Rajapaksa made the following remarks:
“I saw that even today, a minister in the government is asking whether Namal has no issue with Easter Sunday. The bomber involved in the Easter Sunday attack was on the JVP national list, not from the SLPP. If you ask from which party the lawyers who appeared for them contested elections, it will reveal the lawyers of terrorists.
If we investigate who suppressed the files during the investigations, those same individuals are now holding high positions in the government.
According to them, it was just a coincidence—but they say it brought Gotabaya Rajapaksa to the presidency.
So, according to their claim, those involved in the Easter Sunday incident helped make Gotabaya Rajapaksa President through the JVP national list. If that is the case, then the JVP must take responsibility,” he said.
