Police sergeant found dead near police quarters

A police sergeant attached to the Ingiriya Police station was discovered lying dead on the ground near the police quarters, Ingiriya Police said.

A passerby on the road near the police station noticed the officer around 6:00 a.m. yesterday and alerted the police.

Officers arrived at the scene to find him already dead and subsequently moved the body to the Ingiriya Hospital.

The deceased officer was identified as 57-year-old Police Sergeant Indrajith Mudalige (41091), a resident of the Sawgas Junction area on Ratnapura Road, Horana.

The post-mortem examination was conducted at the Horana District General Hospital yesterday afternoon, and the final rites are scheduled for tomorrow, police said.
