The newly constructed Kopai police station in the Jaffna Division opened today (14).
Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala led the opening ceremony, which was also attended by Inspector General of Police Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya, Police Headquarters stated.
The Kopai police station initially commenced operations on 06 January 1966. Police Headquarters said approximately 47 million rupees went towards constructing this fully-equipped, modern police station.
The Kopai police area spans a land extent of 51 square kilometres and comprises 27 Grama Niladhari divisions, police noted.
A population of around 64,500 people resides within the area.
Two prominent educational institutions in the country, the University of Jaffna and the Jaffna Kopai Teachers' Training College, are also located within this police division.
