A suspect has been arrested in the Horombawa area of Narammala along with a container truck carrying goods imported without paying customs duties, the Kuliyapitiya Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau said.
The operation was carried out, yesterday (14), based on a tip-off, and the arrested suspect and the container with goods have been handed over to the Kuliyapitiya Police Station for further investigations, according to Police Headquarters.
The suspect is a 41-year-old resident of the Horombawa area.
Items found inside the container include 190 bottles of foreign-made liquor, motorcycle parts, 42 motorcycle chassis, 44 motorcycle engines, bicycles and bicycle parts, 6 forklifts, 3 excavators, as well as a large number of agricultural equipment and household goods.
Police Special Task Force (STF) search teams from the Kurunegala and Puttalam camps were also deployed to assist officers of the Kuliyapitiya Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau in inspecting the container.
Kuliyapitiya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
