Two suspects were arrested by Bagawanthalawa Police today (15) for allegedly trapping, killing, and selling the meat of a sambar deer.
The Police said the suspects had set a trap and captured the deer in the NC Division of the Chapelton Estate in Bagawanthalawa.
The raid was carried out following a tip-off received by Bagawanthalawa Police that meat from the killed deer was being sold to estate workers.
The suspects were arrested while allegedly transporting 10 kilograms of deer meat in a polythene bag to be sold to a businessman in Bagawanthalawa town.
The two suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court.
