Eight drivers operating passenger buses while under the influence of drugs were arrested during inspections centred around Ratnapura town, police stated.
The Sabaragamuwa Province Road Passenger Transport Authority, the Sri Lanka Police, and the National Transport Medical Institute jointly conducted these inspections. Accordingly, 96 passenger buses were inspected, leading to the arrest of eight drivers.
The arrested buses were taken into the custody of the Ratnapura Police. Ratnapura Police said the bus drivers will be produced before the court tomorrow.
The Chairman of the Sabaragamuwa Province Road Passenger Transport Authority L. Kaluthota stated on this occasion that these raids will be implemented across the Sabaragamuwa Province in the future.
