Indika Jayalath, an independent group member who supported the ruling party in securing control of the Agalawatta Pradeshiya Sabha, has announced that he will resign from his position as Deputy Chairman during a recent monthly council meeting.
Accordingly, when contacted today (19), he stated that he would officially step down from the post on June 26, marking one year since he took office.
He said he had supported the current administration in gaining control of the council without political bias, with the aim of developing the locality.
However, he claimed that council affairs are being carried out without informing him and that none of the proposals he submitted as Deputy Chairman have been implemented so far.
Due to these reasons, he informed the council that he will no longer continue in the role of Deputy Chairman and will also resign from the committees he has been representing.
