The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) today (19) filed indictments before the Colombo High Court against former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa and two others in connection with a corruption case.
The other accused named in the indictment are Sepalika Saman Kumari and Keerthi Bandara Kotagama.
The charges relate to allegations that, following damage caused during the May 9, 2022 'Aragalaya' protests to an unauthorised building and related property located on land belonging to the Mahaweli Authority in Savanagala, Kiribbanwewa, compensation was initially refused.
However, it is alleged that the accused later used their official influence to pressure certain government officials attached to the Office for Reparations and unlawfully obtained compensation amounting to Rs. 8,850,000, thereby committing the offence of 'corruption' and aiding and abetting it.
The indictment includes 10 charges against the accused. The prosecution has listed 30 witnesses and 38 productions (documents and exhibits) in the case.
