Bus fare revision effective from July 5 midnight

The National Transport Commission (NTC) announces that the annual bus fare revision will come into effect from midnight on the upcoming July 05.

The statement also includes details regarding the new fares that will be implemented from that date.

The approval for the annual bus fare revision was granted at the Cabinet meeting held on the 30th of last month.

The new revisions are as follows:

1. Considering only the changes (increases) in the cost factors included in the fare formula, the bus fare for ordinary bus services under 100 kilometers increased by twelve percent (12%).

2. Considering the changes (increases) in cost factors included in the fare formula and the removal of anomalies in the fare structure, increasing the bus fare for ordinary services of 100 kilometers and above by 20 percent (20%).

3. Considering only the changes (increases) in the cost factors included in the fare formula, the bus fares of all luxury services under 100 kilometers will be incresed by 12 percent (12%) of the current luxury service bus fare.

4. Considering the changes (increases) in cost factors included in the fare formula and the removal of anomalies in the fare structure, increasing the bus fares of all luxury services of 100 kilometers and above by fifteen percent (15%) of the current luxury bus fare.

As there is a pending case in the Court of Appeal, it was recently decided to implement the bus fares for semi-luxury services by increasing them by 1.5 times the increased ordinary bus fare mentioned in 01 and 02 above.
