Negombo Prison clash leads to 2 deaths

Police confirmed that two individuals succumbed to their injuries during the violent clash between two groups at the Negombo Prison, today (5).

Over 27 inmates were admitted to hospital following the clash, according to hospital sources.

One injured person received a transfer to the National Hospital of Colombo for further care.

Authorities suspect that two inmates have escaped amid the chaos of the confrontation.

To restore order within the prison facility, prison authorities requested the assistance of the Police Special Task Force.

The cause of this unrest remains still unknown, and prison officials have commenced further investigations.
